In Langrisser, terrain is an important factor to consider when assessing the battle situation as it can cause movement penalties depending on your hero and soldier movement type and give defensive bonuses that could save your life.

The table below shows the cost for each movement type and the defensive bonuses that each type of terrain can give. Note that heroes and soldiers with Move Fly Flying or Icon Move FieldArmy Terrainmaster movement type do not get any penalties.

Movement Type Cost: Troops must expend a certain movement value for each block they pass though. For example, a Cavalry unit with 5 Mobility can move through 2 blocks of Desert terrain per turn.

Exceptions[]

There are certain troops that bypass the above limitations, such as Unicorns, which give your hero Terrainmaster movement type, and Mechanical Knights, which bypass the cost for moving through Forest terrain.

There are also certain heroes who either have Terrainmaster movement type or gain skills that allow them to ignore terrain, such as Elwin and Cherie in their SP classes and Sonya. Many Aquatic heroes have skills or talents that allow them to move across any terrain as if they are in Water. Some heroes like McClaine can change the terrain type to Water for their enemies as well.
